Outlook

Outlook lets Nessie import your Microsoft 365 email, folders, and categories.

How to connect:

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations
  2. Click Add integration
  3. Select Outlook
  4. Click Sign in with Microsoft. Your browser opens the Microsoft sign-in page
  5. Sign in with your work or school account and approve read access to your mail
  6. Come back to Nessie. The first sync starts automatically

Requirements:

  • A Microsoft work or school account with an Exchange Online mailbox
  • Your organization may require an administrator to approve Nessie before you can sign in. If Microsoft shows Need admin approval, ask your IT team to approve the Nessie app

Nessie requests read-only access. It never sends, deletes, or changes email.

What gets imported:

  • Mail from every folder except Junk Email, Deleted Items, Drafts, Conversation History, Outbox, and Sync Issues, grouped into threads
  • Your folders, including nested folders, and your categories as labels
  • Email bodies as searchable text, with the original formatting kept for reading in Nessie
  • Attachment names, types, and sizes. Attachment files are not downloaded

How sync works: Nessie checks Outlook for new mail and folder changes every 15 minutes. Large mailboxes import gradually, up to 1,000 conversations per sync, and new mail keeps arriving while older mail is still importing. Mail you delete or move to Deleted Items or Junk leaves Nessie and comes back if you restore it.

One Microsoft account: Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint share one Microsoft sign-in. Use the same work or school account for all three; Nessie only asks Microsoft for the extra permissions a new integration needs.

Reconnecting: If Microsoft access expires, the integration shows Session expired with a Reauthenticate button. Reconnecting keeps your sync progress.

Data storage: Your email is stored locally by default. If Cloud Sync is enabled, synced email can be stored in Nessie Cloud so it is available to MCP, Teams, agents, and your other devices. Your Microsoft sign-in stays in the macOS Keychain on the Mac where you connected the source, and Nessie talks to Microsoft directly. Removing the integration does not revoke Nessie's access in Microsoft; you can do that from your Microsoft account's app permissions.
